Been thinking about game design for a while now. I have been thinking about how the game can affect the player emotionally. I pay attention to off comments people make in game forums. I didn't fully realize the impact of some NPCs until someone pointed it out.
For instance, in Skryim a character would say something like "Your parents should be very proud of you. I am too." People have expressed how profoundly this impacted them. So I put this in my notes of "things to include" in any given game. I also saw a meme where there are people where their only positive interaction with the world could be a video game. I don't know what kind of dark existence that would be so it makes it hard for me to relate. Which is probably why I didn't understand the impact of such a statement. I realized that regardless of the medium, you will have an impact on someone.
I have also been thinking about how people get older they become more of a casual player. But as a casual myself I want to a more detailed system of interaction with the game. Despite the shitty graphics (all text map), the "Mines of Moria" is one of my all time favorite games. It is based upon the Rogue I think. I remember being able to do almost anything that made logical sense with anything. For instance, you could dip arrows in any potion. The affect was not always significant, but you could to that. I want to recreate that in my games. I am going to start with shitty graphics and build a system of interaction that is more detailed than any RPG I have played. Maybe a lot of players will gloss over this, but for those that want that it will be there. I think the biggest issue is often the types of exploits this would allow. So I guess I will have to get good at simulating the player interactions to test things out. I am always a bit frustrated with games that have mages, but all their spells are wrote. I feel like skill trees for all types of play should be expansive and exclusionary. That way a new play through doesn't end up with the same god character every time.
I have been watching One Piece. I now want piracy and ships in my game. Including ship battles with a working crew. It seems like this could make an RPG a lot of fun. Who doesn't want mages casting fireballs at opposing ships?8 -
I really gotta stop accepting food from other people
my birthday was the other day and my roommate wanted to get me something special to eat for free
I said I keep dreaming of the samosa salad from Indian places he would get and I would keep stealing a spoon full of to try (this was after I got sick and insensitive to food so I was cautious)
he insisted it was from this fast food place... that's weird. I don't think it was. he insists all Indian places have it on their menu but he just didn't know. and he was getting this fast food's place one and that's the one I liked. ok. I consent.
I go running, come back, shower, hungry and food arrived, so I scuff down half the samosa salad thing
now I feel like trash
and it tastes nothing like it
it has fucking BBQ sauce in it. no yogurt. it's supposed to be Indian. what the fuck, sweet-ass bqq sauce? the spiciness is some retarded white people taste. this isn't the punch of Indian food.
30% of the mass is cucumber. wat. there's fucking pomegranate seeds in it so you can't even chew it. what am I even eating. the samosa pieces are all soggy and not crunchy like I remember. the spiciness sucks. there's no yogurt to counteract it either. just pathetic
and now I feel like garbage. I feel sick to my stomach. because that BBQ sauce was a lot more sugar than you could taste.
I fucking hate my life. I hope I don't get sick from the food, cuz I have food insensitivities... and I knew before when I took spoonfuls of what he ordered they didn't effect me... but that wasn't this.
this fucker literally lied and used me to order food guilt-free under the pretense of "hey it's your birthday and I wanna get you a meal". and he orders disgusting fast food that isn't even food. "for me". while lying to me. me who can't even eat the damned cherries I love without my brain degrading because those are too much sugar. what the hell is wrong with this guy
I know I got downvoted for this before but fuck I hate fat people. I don't want to eat fast food. I want real food. I don't want to get sick off fake fucking BBQ sauce infused with disgusting sugar. all this guy does is make excuses for the food he wants to eat. maybe I'm just literally food insensitive watching him eat himself to death I don't know. I feel like puking
I swear nothing good anyone ever does for you is ever for you. people are rotten.1 -
Been looking into some of my old code (an OBSE plugin). Wanted to know how something worked I made over 10 years ago. I look through the code and some of it makes sense, some of it looks really messy compared to what I write now. I want to remake some of this code to work on a different game now.
I have some code for threading that I have no idea where it came from:
https://github.com/Demolishun/...
It allows transferring data between different threads using mutexes. It is really really simple. I searched github to see if it came from there. There is stuff with similar names, but the code is way way different in those. I honestly don't see whey this code needs to be any more complicated than it is. I wonder if it is because I don't know something or I just like simpler solutions. Maybe there are use cases the other coding solutions have that solve particular problems?
Anyway, I plan to pound out an SKSE version of this plugin. I have been wanting to make this for some time now. I don't necessarily have a need other than the fun factor. My lack of providing good directions for use on the OBSE version kept people from using it. I will try and do better on this version.2 -
Okay, so most of the backend stuff is done: the parser, VM and assembler can be considered in working state. Now I only need to combine these bytecode files I'm outputting to enable including and-- FUCK. I HAVE TO WRITE A LINKER.5

wait..... can you auto indent console logs depending on their nesting in functions?
I just realised it can be hard to read console logs because say you do
log('here 1')
callFunction()
log ('here 2')
But callFunction does a bunch of logging, then your here1 and here2 become separated !
But if you could make console log automatically add a couple spaces for every level of nesting/scoping that would be ideal .. ? 👀10 -
I genuinely don't know what I am doing here. I have no form of social media so I started using my school laptop and found out this site isn't blocked so here I am reading random ass dev's yapping and ranting. Honestly love it lmfao.4

I'm stuck.
Quitting smoking/scrolling/youtube/other unhealthy coping mechanisms, taking my prescriptions and exercising every day made my mind free — now it's unobstructed, clear and not hindered in any way.
The problem is, without constant coping, my memory turned into a minefield. I can't think freely, as I constantly stumble upon trauma after trauma that make my heart physically hurt.
With clear mind, I now clearly see what used to lurk in shadows, and I'm terrified of it. I won't go back to smoking and watching youtube ten hours a day.
What should I do?13 -
Hehehehe, you would entertain yourself to some Debian downstream packager drama, wouldn't you? 🕺💃🔥🔥🔥

is there even anyone who thinks natively in rust
if someone knows someone with YouTube channel or something that'd be great
I don't mean explanations but they actually intuitively design in it inside their own heads
generally my brain catches onto that fast but with rust I find i prototype stuff then have to go back and rewrite everything... which is a pain
and now I'm trying to do a complicated iterator object with sub functions and my brain evidently needs to make a leap over like 5 new concepts and I don't know if it's worth the effort or it will go nowhere
but if there's videos of somebody who codes natively, unconscious competence in rust then I could pick up the intuition way faster from watching them
just the problem is any content for rust is made by people who don't seem to really know rust, but are just moonlighting through it or fanboys of it7 -
If you worry about fuckups, imposter syndrome, then don't!
Just watch for example, senate hearings and people in the highests post behave like children, some are in charge of the military, others in charge of billions of $$$3 -
SSL was a good idea terribly implemented. Relying only on big tech for valid certificates was the single most idiotic thing the web baboons could come up with.
Sure, you could always hack comodo (again) to issue yourself some LAN certs but come on. You either expose your server or pay half a kidney for a somewhat secure thing! Give me a break....8 -
In my case, the most unrealistic deadline was when I was put on a project for 30 person days in 2008. The project had been running for about 6 months at that point.
I spoke to the project manager about my tasks and she told me to finish the fat client. So I immersed myself in the sources. And I was horrified to realize that not only was it not even a POC, but the performance was lousy to say the least. It took about 70 (sic!) seconds to start the program, read in about 20 records from a database and display them as a hierarchical structure.
I asked the PM when I was supposed to have finished my work, and her response was, "Yesterday."
"Very funny," I replied.
"No, really," she said, "the deadline was yesterday."
It took me an afternoon to speed up the fat client startup to 6 seconds. And then it took us another two weeks or so to identify the processes in discussions with the technical project manager. Because that didn't exist yet either.
About 1.5 years after the deadline, the software system - consisting of the fat client, mainframe modules and purchased software - was stable enough to be rolled out. -
I fucking hate picking a linux distro, I always end up regretting my choice nonetheless because my fucking laptop is so old anything is too irritating for it to run and every distro has some mild annoyances that I fixate on them and cannot keep my stupid miserable brain to just let it go13

Recent signs for hating my self.
1. I use Gnome3 on every desktop without being violently forced.
2. I reject girl which bluntly asks me for hookup preferring wanking in loneliness.
3. I open linkedIn without any reason.
Point 3 is really concerning.2 -
Vertical pressure leaf filter? More like a vertical pain in the neck! Why in the world would anyone think it's a good idea to arrange filter leaves in a vertical orientation? It's like they're begging for inefficiency! And don't even get me started on the maintenance nightmare that comes with trying to clean those things out. You practically need a ladder just to reach them!
Then there's the horizontal pressure leaf filter. Oh, joy! Because arranging those filter leaves horizontally makes all the difference, right? Wrong! It's just another headache waiting to happen. Sure, it might save a bit of space, but at what cost? I'll tell you: constant clogging, uneven flow distribution, and a whole lot of frustration.
And don't even get me started on the molten sulphur filter. Molten sulphur! Do they not realize how dangerous that stuff is? And yet, they expect us to trust some flimsy filter to keep us safe? No thank you! I'd rather take my chances swimming in a pool of lava.
Filter elements? Oh, great! Because we really needed another thing to keep track of in our already cluttered warehouses. And good luck trying to find the right one when you need it. It's like searching for a needle in a haystack, except the needle costs thousands of dollars and could potentially shut down your entire operation if you pick the wrong one.
Pulse jet candle filter? What is this, a science fiction movie? Just because it sounds fancy doesn't mean it actually works! And don't even get me started on the polishing and bag filter. If I wanted to spend all day polishing things, I'd become a shoe shiner, not an engineer!
And as for self-cleaning filters and strainers, don't even get me started! They claim to be self-cleaning, but what they really mean is that they'll clog up and break down just like every other filter out there. It's a scam, I tell you!
Oil field filtration equipment? Yeah, because nothing says "reliable" like trusting your livelihood to a piece of machinery that's constantly exposed to the elements and covered in God-knows-what.
And basket filters and strainers? They're like the ugly stepchild of the filtration world. Nobody wants to deal with them, but we're stuck with them anyway because apparently, we can't have nice things.
Process filtration and equipment? More like process frustration and equipment that's one step away from falling apart at any moment. And don't even get me started on 'Y', 'T', and conical strainers. What even are those? And why do we need so many different types? It's like they're trying to confuse us on purpose!
And finally, the auto backwash filter. Because apparently, we're too lazy to clean our own filters now. What's next? Auto-eating forks and self-driving shoes? Give me a break!
In conclusion, filtration equipment is the bane of my existence. So thanks, but no thanks, to all these so-called "innovations." I'll stick to my good old-fashioned cheesecloth, thank you very much!rant oil field filtration equipments self cleaning filters & strainers 'y' filter elements process filtration & equipments vertical pressure leaf filter pulse jet candle filter molten sulphur filter horizontal pressure leaf filter basket filters & strainers polishing and bag filter1 -
