As a total noobass with Linux I tried installing Arch. Why the fuck did I do that.

I fucked up the drive partitions, deleted the Windows boot loader and now neither Windows nor Arch fucking loads.

Can this get any worse

If your data were important, you'd have taken a backup before, i.e. a disk image - right?

It can get worse: windows could start working again

    Now try Gentoo.

I managed to load my windows files through arch and onto a USB when I did the exact same thing a few months back. But then had to wipe my ssd to fix it... but at least I didn't lose my data.

@jschmold And this is why it pisses me off that articles label Ubuntu and Linux Mint as "beginner" distros like it's so easy that grandma will know bash scripting in her first day.

    sudo wget https://download.fedoraproject.org/...

lsblk ;find out what what drive you want to put the fedora installer onto

    sudo dd if=<isofile> of=/dev/sd<your drive> bs=4M status=progress

    sudo sync

    Enjoy

@dontbeevil Well tbh, I'd never recommend a Linux newbie to install arch haha. That's just not feasible as it's mostly for experienced linuxers!

@amatrelan installing it on a virtual machine is fine, but installing it as a second OS is where it gets tricky.

Either Windows doesn't recognize there is a second OS, or all the UEFI configs get fucked, or grub overwrites windows boot loader, or absolutely everything breaks and nothing loads
