    Even my small uni in a small city uses win 10. You should go to head of engineering and complain about using old OS.

    It's your unis permissions. Mine did the same. They don't want you to restart it shut down without admin, you have to log out instead

    @taigrr they never did before..so..it got me..

    @hashit Like @Paramite said, this is a group policy setting. Microsoft let’s you apply “policies” to entire domains for better access control at scale. Typically you apply controls like that on computers used by the general public, or used to do sensitive financial transactions, etc. Or also if your Sysadmin is a control freak (50/50 chance)

    Its a group policy thing, if you have privileges you should still be able to use shutdown -r, -s etc.

    @NarkoCat actually it's far simpler to upgrade a fleet of a smaller uni than a rather big one. But it all depends on management, policy's and state of the tech I guess (a big automated fleet using proven and laid out plans is easier to upgrade than upgrading a small fleet manually)

    @Paramite But wait, what if you wanted to reboot all the domain controllers at the same time? 😁

    @Paramite
    What I meant is:
    *Programmatically fire a Powershell script on all DCs*
    // Restart.ps1
    ...
    shutdown /s
    ...
    First call: “Why can’t I log in?”

    😬Watched it happen. I maybe wrote the script. Which doesn’t mean don’t use scripts, but because of that experience I manually run the command on each DC if I need to restart them.
