Google just announced the .dev TLD which is now available for registration.

I guess it's time to change all my personal project host names to something different 🤷‍♂️

    They started forcing HTTPS for .dev domains two years ago in Chrome, even tough it wasn't a real tld, seems like this was the reason behind it.

    Why does only Google charge this $11,500? Google links other registrars on get.dev without any "early access" fees!

    Anyhow, I like this TLD.
    Especially that plain http is not allowed in browsers, but TLS is required.

    @elver You may choose another registrar. Gandi (https://gandi.net) offer .dev domains, too. And they don't seem to charge $11,500.

    What do you think about using it for my portofolio website? Or should I just go with .com?

    @DawidCyron stick to .com

    @irene point. 🤔but com is so widely used that a clients first intict would always be to type com instead of net or orgm or in this case, dev.

    @jespersh just perfect😆

    @irene .com stands for commercial (and a portfolio is some kind of commercial), not company, also, nobody enforces that you can only choose for example .org if you are an organization. It's the most widely used and easiest to remember tld.
