Currently taking apart a 25 year old scalextric power supply, trying to work out why one side isn't working. I'm thinking about buying a soldering iron, but can't see anything obviously wrong...

I've now worked out how to Jimmy the rest apart, so a full resolder is one option.

The contacts on those analogue hand throttles get gummed up all the time - could just be as simple as some good switch cleaner. Beyond that likely a bad solder joint or something - a multimeter on continuity mode should tell you. There's not much to those things, so it should be perfectly fixable.

@atheist looks like it's using a TRRS type jack to control power.

Plug the controllers into the jacks (make sure it's unplugged) and check for mechanical friction on each ring.

There's a good chance you just need to bend one of the contacts inside to make a better connection. You can usually do this with some tweezers or tiny screwdriver.

i'm more tired of people who are in on all of this crap telling me everything is new or hasnt happened. people are living like animals now.

@AvatarOfKaine I'm not saying this is new, this thing is 25 years old, I'm just saying it's what I'm currently playing with.

Looks a bit corroded but nothing obvious. Does the led light up?

@atheist i'm also saying that our discussions with the neural networks were not the first time we had them and i kept skipping tings because i realize i already wrote them but have no replacement projects atm :( what is new really ?

my major objectives aren't achievable without teams of people and would be used to power an organization and safeguard records of time and history and prevent people from diluting or polluting the existing ones.

See the 3 solder joints in the upper right hand side? Those look like power? The brown around the edges could indicate that the flux from the solder has flowed between the solder and the pads. Reflowing those connections with the brown rings could fix whatever problems it has.
