I used to love my job.

Then I disliked my job.

The people I worked with kept me at my job.

When those people left all I had was my dislike.

Now I hate my job.

And I'm really starting to hate the people I work with.

I'm not even sure I even want to keep developing anymore, but at this point I couldn't support my family any other way.

So I'll stay smouldering for the next 40 years, in a career dumpster fire that's long lost its magic just so I can give my family a better life.

Keep looking for job opportunities, there'll be a better one for you soon enough. :-)

next 40 years?? Wow so optimistic thinking that you'll survive as a programmer for that long 😂

Yeah, keep looking for the job.

Ask the people you liked where they went and try to follow them.

If you keep a job that makes you unhappy, your family relationships WILL be affected. It might hurt to pull the band-aid off right now, but you absolutely cannot dismiss the value of your own mental health. Having a job you hate, solely to support your family, will lead to resentment and bottled-up dislike for the exact people you're sacrificing to support.

    Don't let this happen.

@bahua I don't disagree, but the things that make me unhappy aren't just at my current job.

Micromanaging, over selling product management, executive lies, office politics, sales/marketing(need I say more).

I doubt anyone at my company even realizes that we're under a growing hostile takeover from our private investment partner.

I give it a year and the whole culture we had will be dead, and then we're just a corpse grinder.

I've tried leaving, but in my area nobody wants to pay me what I'm already being paid because, "you don't hold a high enough degree to merit that kind of cost." Regardless if I hold almost 20 years of experience.

Same boat, sans family. Despite everyones good advice I have concluded I simply detest working, period. Nothing anyone can say will ever make me enjoy it, it is it's very nature to warp something you love doing into something you dread doing.
