Someday in an embedded course:

Lecturer: "You'll want the following drivers and SDK for this lecrure. With some tweaks it'll also work on Windows."

Guy with shiny Mac infront: "What about Mac?"

Lecturer: "WTF? You don't use Mac for embedded systems." o.O

Me: lol 😁

My experience was that it was really limiting to which OS you could use for different embedded systems. In one course we had to use Linux and for specific chipsets there was only drivers for Windows. Had to use the schools computers to be able to work with it.

I have a limited experience too, but I have seen Atmel Studio being available only for Windows, if I want to go linux i would have to use AvrDude that writes directly in the flash, never seen anything regarding Mac
