    Nice! You should give a review as I am interested (I have the Pixel XL).

    Oh, and be prepared for all the comments from the anti-google privacy gang here (there's a lot if them, but I still love them) 😉

    Goodbye privacy!

    @MissDirection did you say anything about the anti-google gang? :v
  • 19
    Oh hey look, someone ordered a mass surveillance device 😄

    @MissDirection we'll he'll meet one of the biggest devRant privacy nerds at some point 😘

    Take my advice, never post Google related stuff in a place where @linuxxx is a member of it :P

    But ya goodbye privacy and hope this one doesn't have the issues we heard about. Enjoy your new phone ^_^

    Any phone can be rooted and flashed with whatever rom you want, including the pixel series.

    My entire argument with the pixel is the price. It lacks a great number of flagship features and flexibility, but carries greater than flagship cost, for no better reason than the fact the Google allegedly participated in its design.

    The moment you get on a mobile network or wifi, you lose privacy. Regardless of the platform or device you use.

    @Jop- Nope. It Is maintained: http://makeuseof.com/tag/...

    Nooooooooo
    Money wasted.

    @dontPanic @Torbuntu @linuxxx @Haxk20

    What the fuck are you talking about? Phones marketed by Google (like the Nexus and Pixel series) are not any more privacy endangering than any other Android device - in fact they come without additional bloatware and trojans, so you could argue that their stock configuration is among the most privacy respecting available (which still isn't much).

    And they usually have no restrictions for rooting/installing a custom ROM (at least that was true for the Nexus series), which is better than what you get from most brands.

    I've really no idea what you think you're talking about here... Except if course you're all just trolling. I could live with that. :P

    Guys and girls. If you are that much worried about privacy, just use Nokia 3310.
  • 1
    @sinisas That phone offers literally no option for secure communication. >.<
  • 1
    @theCalcaholic at least cannot record you while "watching" pornhub...
  • 0
    @dontbeevil yes. >.<
  • 2
    Android can't be secure?

    • Custom Rom
    • Rooted
    • Xprivacy (important)
    • Disable Google services (important)
    • Replace Play Store
    • Use Signal (Duh)
    • Use Tor proxy
    • Use Orfox
    • Don't install sketchy crap (Duh)
    • Don't install spyware like WhatsApp, Venmo, Snapchat, Amazon, Facebook, etc. (Duh)
    • Custom firewall/hosts setup to block known trackers

    Sounds secure to me. 😞
  • 2
    @Ashkin *favourites comment* oh right I can't 😞
  • 1
    @Ashkin Still not entirely sure on how to replace the playstore yet though 😅
  • 1
    @linuxxx Meh, that's less important I think.
  • 2
    @Ashkin Agree be we all need some apps sometimes! I did just export the apk's from my old phone 😁
  • 3
    @linuxxx If you're really paranoid about it you could 'freeze' the play store app with titanium backup when you're not using it. But you wouldn't get updates, so it might not be the best idea. Or try to get EVERYTHING from F-Droid (that's not easy though).

    @Ashkin EXACTLY! I don't get why some people here seem to think that an Android phone is any more privacy infringing, because it's sold by Google directly. Every other Android phone contains the same amount of Google apps and services by default + the crap that is installed by its vendor.
    And the phone can obviously be modified as any other Android phone, with the additional advantages, that Google doesn't bitch about you installing Custom ROMs/rooting and makes it really easy (in contrast to many other vendors).
  • 2
    @theCalcaholic Nah I wouldn't call it paranoid, more like conscious :)
  • 1
    @linuxxx Oh, apparently that didn't come across as intended. I would definitely get rid of the party store myself if it was feasible.

    I just wrote 'paranoid' because 'freezing' the app wouldn't actually help a lot. So it's just for feeling better. ;)
  • 2
    @linuxxx But still, in case you're not already using it, you should definitely check, what apps you can replace by those from F-Droid.

    But I guess, that's what you're doing already. ^^
  • 2
    @theCalcaholic Yup but tips are always welcome mate!
  • 2
    @Jop- *secure

    They're both extraordinarily secure, but signal doesn't save metadata.
  • 1
    @Jop- *incredulously* Really? Have you even looked at the source?
  • 1
    @Ashkin Well he's not completely wrong. The same person is responsible for the crypto of both messengers, so it can be assumed (but not verified because whatsapp is closed source) that it is equally strong. However this only holds true as long as you trust Facebook that they didn't include back doors intentionally (why would you?) and you disregard meta data completely, which is a fucking big deal.

    I mean Signal -- I would never use anything (okay, finished software) put out by Facebook.

    (Like, React is nice, but it's not like that spies on you.)
