So this place seems to be relatively inactive, especially compared to how it was back in 2016, 2017. What happened?4

garbage collectors' lifestyle matters!
Ever eyeballed the abyss of your memory leaks? Shit, garbage collectors deserve a raise.
Unsung heroes, janitorialing thru that VM like a dung beetle, silently fucking up your perf so you can do that delicious spaghetti. Indiana-jonesing the fuck out of that memory trash can and euthanizing all that disgusting heap of pointers hanging, dangling, like... well, like garbage.
At the very least they're deterministic, unlike that Markov chain we all had the displeasure of fucking up. Amen? Amen! 🙌🏻
You gotta wonder, though, what goes through their nuggin. Do they reminisce about the potential of that half-ass-written class? Do they weep for the elegance of a forgotten function bottlenecking their job? Nah, probably just counting down the nanoseconds till their next full GC cycle. Aaah, like cold beer in Saturday barbecue.
So next time your program miraculously avoids a memory error, take a moment, put your hands up in the air and say a prayer to your garbage collector.
Silently covering for your fuckups1 -
Being able to confidently say infront of the CEO that everything you implemented is working just fine, while their business is standing still because another software company fucked up almost everything, having tried everything to blame us for the errors, reminds me of why I’m doing this shit.2

If you cannot forecast something, it's random. If you cannot predict my actions, then for you, I have free will. Let's reconsider when you can.4

I regularly get added by unknown people on telegram. Now, sometimes they're real people asking you to rate some hotels or put smth in a shopping basket in a specific webshop.
It's my hobby to figure out what their scam is. (I think just not paying, how would they do that anyway).
Also, you've bots. Doing acquisition and then ask you to contact them on a different number. I do this. Yolo. For fun.
But now, there's a Chinese girl that added me and I can't figure out if she's a bot or real. She did ask me to contact on a different number - like bot.. But she goes to sleep on Hong Kong timezones and I've let her tell me what was in a youtube video. She described well. Still, I don't trust.
She does have some inconsistenties in dot usage at end of sentence and stuff.
English, quite well but I think she uses translator if she's real. She said it's not her native language.
It drives me totally crazy not being able to figure out.
What are more ways to check if AI?26 -
Do you think about paternity / maternity?
I mean it's not that I WANT to have kids but it happened to LITERALLY EVERY ONE OF MY DIRECT ANCESTORS so I fatalistically assume it's gonna happen to me one day. My dad, my grandpa, my grand-grandpa, my grand-grand-grandpa, they all had kids.
I already had some close calls lmao39 -
I take the day off for a dr appointment cause I know shots make me tired and I won't work well after
But..... my coworker breaks a super important batch script by not reading a pop up note on a recent fix and (temporary) manually needed adjustment that pauses the script until you press a button
Then proceeds to skip all THREE places across the process to catch the problem caused by that not reading the note
And finally sees an issue AFTER final version is already sent out to clients....
So as soon as I get home I need to log on and rerun the process taking my time to read the check spots to make sure values and counts are correct and a new file is sent out
It feels great to take a chunk of my day off to cover a mistake of someone else's
Also should note I'm salaried. So I don't get paid extra for logging on and fixing this on my day off. Kinda sucks but whatever3 -
I was graced by my boss to attend a training for key users of a CRM system we resell, as a technical advisor.
The training is scheduled from 0915 - 1700
Can somebody come and kill me please?4 -
Had a SIM card for a week. Wasn't able to log into their service portal. Internet service was shitty as well. I recalled the contract.
Now they have sent me an email informing me of a bill which is stored in the online portal, and i have no idea for what this is, or how to find out.
I miss letters :-(
What is it that service providers wont send this stuff out as PDF?

ok I'll give it this,
because everything is so slow to write in rust and you have to be so methodical and specific,
I think it's giving me discipline
so it's training me to be less lazy over time,
which is actually something I genuinely wanted,
so it's kind of exciting
granted it still sucks that I have to wait on myself to gain the fortitude to be able to write the old stuff I used to, but if I build discipline / fortitude then it wouldn't matter how big a project was, I could maintain making it indefinitely because I'm not sputtering on effectively "junk food fuel" to power myself but managed to refine fuel that can stick for the long haul
my stupid refinery just has to get its shit together first, which is what all the rust training is slowly doing2 -
I wish I had the balls to do what I want in life without being scared from my wife, or from someone, or from some rule.14

the west, in my experience, makes impressions and promises that they will deliver idealistic outcomes
but when it comes to actually delivering on these outcomes they fall short or pretend they never said those things or otherwise change the topic, maybe slander you
how does everyone, and / or you specifically, deal with this and navigate it? howcome the west is a high-trust society, otherwise said to be prosperous, when it is in the culture to promise a lot and idealize, but the execution is often so lacking? so lacking to such a degree, so defensive if asked about, that it ends up feeling like outright lies? so howcome it functions as a high-trust society? 🤔8 -
I found a new whisper in your tech, and now your razor won’t work because of vague religious propaganda.5
