@donkulator they add foaming agents to soap to perpetuate this myth.
Not all cleaning liquids are foamy. -
@jestdotty 37k? You're being swindled
-
Do you shampoo twice? If so, stop. It's a conspiracy by big hair to trick you into staying with their brand by emptying two bottles at different rates
-
@donkulator probably. But mostly just pissed off at the prices of things.
You bust your ass off to make it, and the goal post moves. -
Prove it, send me Bitcoin
-
You're the expert. If you let anyone else get in between you and the market it's going to be worse, not better.
-
100% disagree.
While it's frustrating as fuck, end users don't know what the fuck they're talking about. If we need them to tell us exactly what to do, it'll be shit.
It's our job as engineers to take that heaping pile of nonsense and turn it into a sensible spec. -
@spantheslayer the way you worded that makes me feel you're not one of the better ones.
DevOps is not being familiar with tools, it's the concepts behind breaking down walls between devs and IT.
The tools are nice to haves. -
I'll be honest with you.
I worked in devops for a while, and the vast majority of people in the field don't belong there. IT people attempting to get paid more and struggling to keep up.
DevOps is an advanced role, and your resume and interview need to show you have the chops.
Resumes should have lots of deliverables and metrics, and interviews should feel like opinionated tech talks. If you're not there yet, it's going to be difficult. -
I frequently travel while working
-
Serious answer: it's closer to you then the cloud, basically a cdn with devices running in pops.
-
It's one thing to reduce costs, but you need to engineer this into a break glass feature, that you ideally deploy from TF using a feature flag to enable
-
Spin up an ec2 node and affinity your pod/stateful set to it. Pgdump to restore the volume, then kill it and let spot instances do their thing
-
I missed this rant because I was in meetings all day :'(
-
As long as it's not nested hadoukens.
Gotta refactor the logic and data sets to avoid that, but it's worth the effort -
Take me with you

I don't understand this joke, it just sounds like you're a prick.

> js
> variables not even initialized
Wut? I'm not a JS dev, but I don't think variables need to be declared and initialized on different steps -
@retoor fragmented heap and a large Pony?
-
A few buddies call ourselves dirt bag engineers, because we're at a big company are in the most senior position before you can start making actual design decisions
-
Why can't you update the tool chain and libs?
-
Always optimize code for readability.
If you can't (need a speed improvement that's hacky for instance) leave a comment as you why you did it, so the next guy (still you) doesn't waste a lot of time groking it. -
Side note. I went to a Hungarian bakery and tried langos. Pretty decent!
-
What were you running from?
-
Sounds like skill issues. Git gud.
-
@jestdotty I'm sorry for your loss.
Is this a bloc thing or a provincial thing? -
@jestdotty Quebec doesn't count and you know it.
-
@jestdotty which bill?
-
Good, getting a little work done, s little working out done.
I've always wanted to see Russia. I'm not sure why, it just seems so different from what I'm used to.
