Interviewer: Good, where?
Me: in a WhatsApp group5 -
My friend is a css guy and he told me this
.illuminati {

So I've got a Linux related job (or, starting at monday). When people ask me what my new position is called, I'll of course tell! Well, I stutter sometimes in my native language. Especially with the letter L.
"so what's your new position?"
"Lllllll-lllll-llllllllllllllllllll"
*mother of god*
"lllllllllllllllllllllll-llllllllllllll*
*OH FFS*
"Llllllllllll-llllllllllllllllllll-lllllllinux support engineer!"
*FUCKING FINALLY!*
"Hey man, you got a new job I heard, what's your new position?"
*please work*
"Lllllllllll-lllllllllllllllll-llllllllllllllllllllll*
*MOTHERFUCKER*
"Lllllllll-lllllllllllllllllllinux support engineer!"
"ey dude, what's your new position? Heard you got a new job!"
*alright let's do this better*
"gonna do stuff with servers and customer service!"
"Ah cool! What system do they run on their servers?"
No. 😡28 -
YES YES YES YES I HAVE MY FIRST INTERVIEW NEXT WEEK (SERVER MANAGEMENT/SUPPORT POSITION)
*JUMPS AROUND* (NOT LITERALLY BECAUSE AT A TRAIN STATION)40 -
So after learning to code myself for about 9 months.
A local agency CEO reached out and offered me a junior position!
Happy days!4 -
A recruiter just sent me a position which required 10+ year experience on ReactJS. So, should I reply "Good luck."?15

On my way to my first job interview ever! Applying for a Linux Support Engineer position.

Dude comes for an interview for a mobile position - one of the first things he says is "Adobe is killing Flash, don't know why, big mistake."7
-
"Position: Java developer
Requirements: Knowledge in C, C++, C#, JavaScript, Python, frameworks like jQuery or Angular (preferable)"
Do you need a Java developer or some kind of development deity?10 -
Team lead dismisses my request for promotion to senior, "need more experience", 3 hours later get job offer for senior position5

My boss just told me that he wants me to stay and is giving me a permanent position :D my contract would have ended by the end of this month otherwise! :D6

Thought I would be funny with the questionnaire for an available IT position. We'll see where it lands me17

Just started my new position and discovered that company's tasks, bugs & versions are managed in single Google Doc 😐9

I don't know why my position has to be labeled "developer", when in reality I ain't develop shit, all I do day after day is fixing legacy code7
-
Someone just offered me a position at Microsoft. Had to decline it, I'm not desperate enough to use Windows again.5
-
Me: why are you using so many break tags?
Intern: Its the only way I can position this div below that form.
Me: *facepalm*11 -
My former team opened two different positions to replace me: senior computer vision engineer and senior computer graphics engineer.
If you combine the required experience years, it's roughly my age 😂
Talk about unrealistic and unnecessary job requirements....4 -
Made advanced tracking system, position, history, speed, allowed areas, warnings, notifications - the whole shabang.
Client is more impressed by form converting hours and minutes into decimals.
Sigh.1 -
FOR FUCK'S SAKE!!!
Stop this INFINITE SCROLL BULLSHIT!!!
Or at least save THE FUCKING position I've been before clicking on an element!16 -
Officially resigned this morning from my helpdesk position.
in two weeks I officially begin my career as a junior dev. I'm on cloud 9 and yet still don't believe it.7 -
Have a Skype interview in 15min for a backend position. Only the first screening, but I'm anxious anyway.
Wish me luck!9 -
Recruiter call me for a position in his company and after speaking for a while he asked me to refer him in my company 🤣1
-
Fuck you css!
Today I discovered (by losing some hours) that "position: fixed" has an exception when deciding where to position elements:
If the element with position fixed is inside an element with a transform, that element is treated has the viewport instead of the screen.
Why the fuck did someone thought that was a good idea?4 -
What's so wrong with having no name for my position?
I mean, it's only me in this startup.
I AM THE STARTUP, DAMMIT.
Do I really have to start calling myself a CEO just to appear trustworthy?
But how does one become a Chief if there's nobody to supervise?
Hustler? Rockstar? Too 'startup'ish and just sad.
Entrepreneur? Founder? Sounds like something a scammer would use.
I'll just stick to leaving my position blank on my business card, thank you.20 -
TFW someone tells you that you're not a "real frontend developer" and then repeatedly asks for CSS help... 😒3
-
Got a notification for a new job. Apparently this is a junior position. I just wonder what else you have to know to get a senior position in that company10
-
If anyone at your work pisses you off that isnt a dev. Slowly begin automating their tasks and soon that position wont exist!2
-
Who is agree with this CSS, and how it could be optimized?
#wife {

Dafuq... My new position label is Senior Software Developer.
I do not identify myself as a senior even in my wet dreams.
I'm confused.22 -
(applying to a developer position)
interviewer : So, do you like to code?
me : of course!
interviewer : Are you sure? because this is a developer position and women prefer something more administrative than coding.
me : Wow! nobody told me that before. If I had known I wouldn't have studied this.
didn't expect to be called back after that...7 -
Why the fuck do employers post remote position jobs, only to let you know in the first call that they require the employee to live in/near a certain city. That's not a remote position and it happened several times in my job hunt8
-

Developers aren't just resources that you "utilize".
We are human beings with thoughts, aspirations, creativity, hopes and fears.
Your position doesn't make you entitled to treat others less.2 -
Can we just have a second to be thankful for being in a position where history grants us the technology and society the possibilities to work with computers?
Thanks 🙂6 -
For some reason, lots of people list that they have a "high attention to dental" on their resumes for a design position.5
-
I did an interview with an international company for an "Expert Fullstack Dev." position...
After being praised by the technical team, it turned out that the position was offering a junior salary...
I swear to god...
HR is the cancer of this industry
I lose faith in humanity day by day.6 -
Finish my master degree
Get a good career position (I just joined my first software company)
Saves more money
That’s it for now2 -
Just received a job invitation for my first developer position. But I never wrote a line of code in my life. I guess my interviewer too.8

Our team is expanding and our boss hired an agency to find candidates. Today a headhunter on linkedin just offered me this position. Dafuq, at least they could check if I'm not working there on the same position.4

They asked me Javascript questions.
Not a single Python question.

Damn. Maybe if I was more charismatic, I too could stop learning and just talk my way into a position with a bullshit title.
Maybe.9 -
Finished all my tasks. Went to bed happily thinking i deserve this rest.
Then after going to bed:
const onSleep = (position) => {

Accurate representation of my Hell desk job. Good news I have a interview today for a software developer position. w00t!8
-
Best: go outside my birth town for a developer position in a big city
Worst: i Miss my little town :(1 -
When you get hired for backend work and are tasked with nothing but front-end work. I gave up a solid position for this?!6

Just received a job résumé for a software engineer position. The very first skill listed:

Got an interview for a really cool position, don’t have specific knowledge about what they do, though. But willing to learn all of that beautiful stuff..
If I get the position, I will rock it:)
Wish me luck.
If you do, may your code always compile and your server stay up.
If you don’t, well yeah, whatever..4 -
Declined a job offer with a startup, partly because of imposter syndrome. Applied for position as programmer, showed up for interview and got cold feet when it turned out they actually wanted/needed a senior programmer/chief technology officer and offered me the position after having asked me no technical questions, seen none of my code or previous projects.
Still, it was a job that paid money... And I'm still jobless two months later :(7 -
Apply for position as an iOS developer. Nail the interview. Get the job. Get asked to write backend in JavaScript. Now I gotta learn JavaScript.9

I am going to be interviewed for an embedded programmer position next week. What topics should I review? Can you share your experience from such interviews?
(I still hope to get a phd position, but no harm in checking other options).13 -
Told my advisor that I was not interested in an additional position due to the massive workload I’m already carrying in my back. Lo and behold, I get a message from a colleague congratulating me on the extra position.
Wat?2 -
Apply for a job, pass the application stage, pass the practical demonstration and get invited for interview.
2 other candidates dropped out before the interview. It was an internal position for me, the other two were externals.
I still got made to interview for the position even though I was the only suitable candidate and everybody in the organisation knew me from my current role.
Why HR? Why?
P.S. I got the job.2 -
I see a lot of people with shitty interactions with recruiters, but I have the chance to work with one to get into what I want to do (net ops incident response) if I call this recruiter.
Backstory: friend applied for a position, got offered this morning (not going through a recruiter) AS recruiter called him for another position within same company. Friend explained situation, but said someone (me) might call recruiter to talk.
Job would increase salary by minimum of 25% and is much closer to what I want to do. Even if I'm still on call, it's a larger team and I'm interested in the stuff.
How do I not get screwed by recruiter? And am I am ass for applying when I know it's < 1 year and I'd be leaving my team down 2 people (so at half capacity)? And do I care?5 -
to all of you out there scared to get into a Dev position because of no formal education:
I don't have any finished formal education, just a bunch of experience from pet projects and free lance here and there. I applied for a position this morning, got an email before the afternoon with an invitation for an interview!
companies are looking for brains, not pieces of paper. just take the jump and try!3 -
Honzo, can we make this website responzive?
Looking ito code:

Hmmmmmm i just got offered a position for a php developer........but something that was not listed in the original application was that it is expected of one to work with wordpress. My wordpress experience is limited to creating simple themes.
I don't like cms systems also. But the position pays really good.
What to do what to do hmmm9 -
Recruiter rant #2.
"Hi, am I speaking to xroad? I got a position with <company> and I think you might be interested in it."
"Is this in <city>?"
"Um, I'm not sure"
I was contacted about a dozen times for the same position the week before. I had to tell him where it's located.1 -

Just had an interview for a position similar to mine in another company.
It was a breath of fresh air that the team lead was open and honest...
It’s not the best position but it’s stable Work that I’m good at, he was up front that it’s not the shiniest thing to work on but that there’s huge opportunity to grow.
His behaviour alone is why I’ll give the position strong consideration.
When you’re interviewing: don’t sweep anything under the rug, be up front about the job and at the least you’ll gain the respect of your candidate.1 -
Interviewing for a front end JavaScript position. Interviewer asks me to converge a linked list in c#. wtf?3
-
Working on my website. Ranting on positioning my background which uses CSS perspective and translateZ to move slowly when someone scrolls.
Can't figure out a way to make it not overflow the whole document for almost 3 days.
Out of frustration changed the position to fixed.
And the problem was gone :( :D :(
I have no idea if I should cry or laugh loudly4 -
How bout instead of "Disrupting space-time continuum" or "Moving satellites into position" .. you just launch your crappy app.15
-
"Hey {name}",
I see you did this raspberry pi project and this is why we called you in for an interview.
Have you done any projects that's relevant to the company? Because your pi project isn't exactly what we're looking for
I know we advertised back end and front end roles for this position. You would be ideal for the front end position ...but our team is backend and the front end position would be at another office
I am so frustrated with companies like these -

This would be my first official post.
Been a IT Technician for a managed service provider for the past 9 years up until last year August. Managing director pulls me in with a movement to App Development after coming across some personal hobby projects I have done in the past.
Started in the new position in November as Junior Developer and workloads get dumped on me and left to figure it out. 4 weeks of running through code without documentation and the solutions started to make sense.
Started a new solution for a Large remote customer with documentation and timelines in December and I get pulled in again for a second time in front of the MD.
Good News:With effect in January I have been promoted to Head of Application development.
Bad News: The existing department head is leaving end of the month and I am to go 900km from home to hand over all responsibilities for the next 3 weeks.
Better News: Department has started shifting to DevOps and it is up to me to set the policies and work flows to how I see fit.
Worse news: it starts by expanding the team asap as 10 projects accounting to 4000 man hours with deadlines in Q3.
Wish me luck. It's going to be twisted Rollercoaster ride...4 -
When there is no Grow potential at your position

But you really like the position and colleagues.

Never speak lowly about your profession or position to anyone. At best, no one cares. At worst, you lose an opportunity to improve that position.

Rants are fun to read, but no one respects someone who rants about their own profession. -

What was the path like to get to your current position?
Is it your end-goal position? If not what are your plans for the future?2 -
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for speaking to me earlier,
If you could send me the following details we can really get the ball rolling with the recruitment process.
• Any jobs you have applied for or interviewed (I need company name and position)
This stops me re applying you for jobs you’ve already applied for
• Any key elements an employer has to have for you
• A name phone number and position held for references at your current contract.
If we can get these over asap then we can start the ball rolling and get you a new position in the most time effective manner.
Kind Regards,
Brainless Lazy Back-Stabbing Recruiter.3 -

I was writing a simple algorithm to simulate gravity. But when I tested it it produced wildly wrong results. I looked over my whole algorithm trying to find the error, but thought that the last bit, the final position update, must be fine.
I was wrong, some misplaced brackets were accidentally multiplying the position + 0.5 by the sum of the old & new velocity instead of adding the position to 0.5 those velocities.
I noticed that and fixed it, and now it runs pretty well. -

As the new year approaches, so does a new chapter in my life. This is a big one as I will be graduating college and hopefully landing my first big position.
My question to you lovely people: what do you feel qualifies someone for a front-end web dev role? As a junior front end dev? Obviously this will vary from position to position, but I'm trying to grasp what kinds of things I really need to have in check.1 -
*job opening says front end web developer*
*technical exam contains questions they used for the back end/web developer position instead of making a separate one for front end*2 -
Why did we stopped using a term programmer, which is exclusive to our position and opted for developer instead?2

Was invited to interview by agent for 1yr contract position. Was accepted for permament position with bigger salary instead. Now I’m an Unix Infrastructure Engineer

-
background-position works relative to its actual size (as in if you scale the background up 2 times, 256px have a whole different position).
like dafuq. how am i supposed to use that with pixels as units?4 -

Me: And this is a graduate position?
Recruiter: yes but I have put some people forward and they haven't had enough experience.
... Good luck to that company trying to find a developer who can do everything and pay them almost nothing. -

Jan/Feb: Decide if I wanna accept a better paying position and leave my family/friends/country behind or stay and try to negotiate first in my current position.
I was offered a new position this week with literally double the pay but I'd have to move.
Rest of the year: Better myself in every way I can think of. -
When you have been away from coding for few years and then realise the next level position you want to go for requires coding expertise. :(1

A question on the CSS position property. I have a hard time understanding position, so I thought I would finally conquer it so that website development it easier.
Q.) Absolute removes the content from the flow and bases its position on the body, unless a container in the body has absolute, meaning the lowest level element finds the highest element that has absolute and bases its position from that and relative keeps it flow as if it was still there and moves relative to is current position in the documents as just a visual, as it does not move the other elements. Am I getting that correct?3 -
When you’re really tired of your job and just wanna leave. but have accepted a new position but have to wait on the background check...😣

I fucking hate my current job. I switched to this one a few months ago, since my last one was getting stale after being there for nearly a decade.
I'm currently considering to return to my last position. Did somebody face a similar situation? Got a new position, only to realize that it sucks?2 -

A new position is opened at my company and I am tasked to conduct interviews for the candidates. I have no experience whatsoever in this.
If you’ve had any experience, how did you approach this? How did you conduct technical interviews with the candidates? We’re talking about candidates that have 3+ years of experience.
The position is for front end, mainly ReactJS.8 -

Hey guys!
I'm a senior computer science student at a big ten university graduating in December. I'm thrilled to have been offered a full time software engineer 1 position on a QA team. I just wanted to ask, I ultimately want to be a software dev, would taking this QA position make that more difficult in any way? Or is it a great place to start? Because it is a software engineer position, but not directly doing software development.
Thanks for your input!3 -
What do you guys think about a "middle" developer from one project taking a "junior" position in the other project?7

I work 100% as a studio admin (finding and fixing images for eshop while helping the photographer, keeping touch with other brands and their imgs and make order / returns to and from studio and raging over others not being able to create proper Excel files..) while I also study on 100% Webdesign via a university on distance. Today I got a call for a Jr.Dev (frontend) extra position (spare time and weekends work). Meeting is on Monday next week so the question is.. if I get it / take it.. should I continue with the study via the university or and the two jobs then or should I drop out, focused on jr.dev extra position while continuing working as studio admin until I can go full time dev? All thoughts and opinions are helpful ☕
Thanks 👍
Ps. Having all three isn't an option, I'm already behind the "having a life"-schedule.. as is.6 -
In case you want to become a front-end dev learn your basics. Dont use position absolute if not necessary. Don't margin -300px, if that's the case to position something there is another error in code that could be fixed to solve this
-
Doing it at my own time
And not having to worry about sitting position jus to look busy and professional when the boss/manager walks in/by the office2 -
Are these people fucking insane? This is supposed to be a devops position and half of the requirements are related to system administrator position or am i insane??21
